When Iga Swiatek (22) makes short work of her competitors again, the internet goes crazy. The Polish number one in the world regularly substantiates his dominance with crystal clear results. Her specialty: sentences with a score of 6:0. The tennis player then talks about a “bagel”, which quickly prompted their fans to say that Swiatek runs their own “bakery”.

Saturday afternoon, in round three of the French Open, she even offered a “double bagel”: a 6-0, 6-0 victory over pathetic Chinese Wang Xinyu (21). It was a real show of strength from the defending champion – and just hours after one of her main competitors had to retire. Elena Rybakina (23) can no longer pose a threat to Swiatek in Paris because of her canceled match due to illness.

Swiatek doesn’t want to fool him

The Swiatek bakery has been booming for a year and a half. The woman from Warsaw produces her specialty in large quantities. In 2023 she will already have 14 bagels, last year she brought that to 22 (!). And also delivered 20 so-called “breadsticks” (translated doughsticks), ie 6:1 set wins.

The master baker, who already has three Grand Slams to her name, knows about her cult status on the internet. But she doesn’t want to comment on him: “I understand the fun, but I don’t want to be disrespectful to my opponents.”

Sand specialist Swiatek, who according to expert Heinz Günthardt (64) can become “like Rafael Nadal” in Paris, now meets Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (34). And this one, well, she’s served a “bagel” twice already.
