The photos went around the world. Taylor Fritz (25), pumped with frustration, who finally let his feelings run free after his match point – and made a statement with his finger over his mouth. Shhhh!

In the duel with the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (27), the one-sided heated atmosphere had exhausted him. Time and time again, the American had to wait for his own service until the fans in the stands had calmed down. Then, after his victory, everything in him exploded. He provoked back, danced around with his finger in front of his mouth, roused the spectators, who whistled louder and louder at the defiant action.

Djokovic speaks of a lack of respect

Whether his reaction was smart is doubtful. The Parisian public not only has a reputation for being impulsive, headstrong and deeply patriotic, but also extremely outraged. But Fritz’s response was at least courageous. A strong sign against “disrespect”, as Novak Djokovic (36) describes it.

“There are groups that like to boo at every action. I do not understand that.”Tennis player Novak Djokovic

Despite his years of success, the Serb is also not immune to boos and whistles. At Roland Garros, that was only the 28 local participants who were all eliminated. Or fan favorites like Rafael Nadal (37), Roger Federer (41) or Serena Williams (41).

For his part, Djokovic says: “The majority come to enjoy tennis. But there are groups that like to provoke any action. That is her right, but I do not understand.” Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur (28) already described the atmosphere as “difficult”.

“Unfriendly” and “extremely intimidating”

Players looking to check a ball mark in the sand expose themselves more sharply to the relentless booers, as do the Ukrainians on the field, who are berated by some fans for their lavish handshakes with Russian opponents.

Tennis legend and TV expert John McEnroe (64) described the crowd as “unfriendly” and “extremely intimidating”, which could also inspire some players: “You can use the negative energy for yourself.”

Fritz girlfriend is celebrated for reaction

Taylor Fritz might. And his girlfriend Morgan Riddle (25) too. The influencer filmed the spectacle at Court Suzanne-Lenglen with a small, pink digital camera and a big grin on her face – and was then celebrated on the internet.

Alexander Zverev (26) also opts for the hugging course. He told the stands: “It’s not nice to play here when you’re playing against us. Then it’s very loud and hostile. But maybe in the next ten days I can be French and we’ll all be happy.”
