Maestro’s voice is in high demand: Federer will soon be heard through the microphone – but not in the way you think

Roger Federer won’t be sitting behind a TV microphone commenting on games for the foreseeable future.

Many tennis stars switch behind the TV microphone after their active career, as an expert or as a co-commentator. For example Boris Becker (55, Eurosport), John McEnroe (64, BBC) or more recently Martina Hingis (42) for SRF.

It is not known whether Roger Federer will also take this step. The Maestro will not be heard on the TV microphone in the near future, he said in a Q&A on Twitter. In particular, the British television company BBC dove into the 41-year-old to win him for the Wimbledon tournament. According to “20 Minutes,” the management of the eight-time winner on the hallowed lawn confirmed that the company had been rejected – at least for this year.

The Swiss daily also knows that there have been no negotiations between Federer and SRF so far. After his resignation in September 2022, it became known that they wanted to get in touch with the Basel. And yet you will soon be able to hear Federer’s voice on your cell phone whenever you want – as a navigational aid.

Federer as navigation voice

It will be available in the Waze app. In addition to the usual instructions, the 20-time Grand Slam winner must get users safely to their destination with several motivational slogans. “It’s driving time. I already feel the adrenaline”, is such a saying. Or: “Time to go! Trust your skills. I am ready to accompany you on your way.”

The Israeli start-up, which has been owned by Google since 2013, has already integrated a number of prominent partners such as pop stars Christina Aguilera and the Jonas Brothers into its product. Federer’s directions will be available in German, English and French. The application is available for Android, iOS and Windows mobile phones. (che)
