License falters with the promoted: does Yverdon’s stadium rescue come from the canton of Bern?

Sportingly, Yverdon has long since secured promotion to the Super League.

Lawyer Bernhard Welten is chairman of the Licensing Committee, which is currently in the media because of the granting of the license to Yverdon. After all, his committee initially granted the newly promoted Vaud a permit, even if it is without a stadium.

Nor your own, which needs to be rebuilt and made suitable for the Super League, especially in terms of light intensity. Neither the tourbillon is included in the permit in Sion, where approval from the canton and police has not been obtained. And Yverdon won’t get them either, as the Valais Council of State Frédéric Favre emphasized once again.

«…then it goes back to the Disciplinary Committee»

How was that possible and what now? Bernhard Welten: “This is a continuous process in which the competition conducts research. I can’t say more about that.”

In turn, the Swiss Football League explains: “We have the possibility to check the license if there are new facts. This has also happened in the past, with a change of ownership or in similar cases,” said head of communications Philippe Guggisberg. “And then if we come to the conclusion that proceedings should be opened, the case will go back to the disciplinary committee.” In this case, however, that is not the case.

Tissot Arena as rescue?

Yverdon, in turn, is working hard to rebuild the Stade Municipal as soon as possible. For example, the vote on the renovation loan by the city council is brought forward from June 15 to this week. But will the league play along with an Yverdon-friendly schedule of numerous away games at the start of the season? And is there enough time? It’s a race against time.

Now a new name appears out of nowhere in this race, that of the Tissot Arena in Biel. As the Vaud newspaper “La Région” reports, Yverdon is considering moving to Seeland until the Stade Municipal is rebuilt on the new schedule in early October. Only: the license application never mentioned this stadium, which would have been absolutely necessary. So the competition can’t wave it through so easily. And if so? It would slowly but surely turn the license into a farce.
