After the fuss about the political message of Novak Djokovic (36) at the French Open, it is now clear: the Serb will get away with it without punishment. That says Gilles Moretton, president of the French tennis federation.

“At the moment there is no sanction because we know he is emotional and we know it is something that affects his family,” Moretton said on France 2. But he also says: “But that must not happen again.” That’s why you talked to the people around you.

No political position wanted on the court

In addition, according to AFP news agency, Moretton also says that the players at the press conferences have the right to express themselves in any area of life. But you really don’t want them to take or express a political position in court.

But that’s exactly what Djokovic did in his first round match at the French Open, when he wrote on a camera lens: “Kosovo is the heart of Serbia – stop the violence”. The Serb alludes to the conflict in Kosovo. On Monday, numerous soldiers from the NATO-led Kosovo Protection Force KFOR were injured in clashes in Serb-populated northern Kosovo.

Minister of Sports with clear words to Djokovic

“I am not a politician and I have no bad intentions. I know it is difficult. It just hurts me what is happening,” the Serb said after the game.

In addition to Moretton, French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera also spoke out, criticizing Djokovic’s statement as “inappropriate”. The message is “militant” and “very political,” she says on France 2. Like Moretton, Oudea-Castera makes it clear: “It must not be repeated.”
