Deportivo escaped the relegated teams by 11 points

Author: CAESAR QUIAN

The Coruñas added the same number of points as the champion Racing de Ferrol compared to the first 15 placed

Deportivo won only one game out of six they played against the top three teams (added 6 points out of 18 possible). However, in spite of everything, he could have reached direct placement if he had won all the points against the last five classified.

And that is that the weakest teams in the category, who suffered relegation to the Second Federation, stole 11 points from the A Coruña team during the entire championship. Namely, the blue and whites won only two games against Talavera, and they suffered (3-2 in Riazor and 0-1 in El Prado).

Pontevedra, second to last in the table, achieved two draws against Coruña (2 points out of 6 possible); while Dépor was zero at home against Balomépédic Linense (0-0), San Sebastián de los Reyes (0-0) and Badajoz (1-0). In addition, against San Fernando, who managed to save themselves on the last day, Dépor won only 1 point out of 6; and it was rejected against Majadahonda (0-0), another one of the sick.

As an example, Racing de Ferrol, champions of Group 1 with 8 points more than Herculinos, have won 9 out of 10 games played against relegated teams (they only conceded one defeat in La Línea). So, taking only the results among the first fifteen classified, Deportivo and Racing de Ferrol added the same number of points (49 out of 84 possible).

Another team that also left a lot of points against relegation is Alcorcón, but despite that it was better than Deportivo (achieving 20 out of 30 possible); while Real Madrid Castilla also saved the day in these matches (24 out of 30).

A year-round problem

Deportivo’s big problem with teams below has been constant throughout the season. In the first seven days, with Borjo Jiménez on the bench, they drew at Riazor with Pontevedra (1-1), lost with San Fernando (0-1) and drew at Majadahonda (0-0), and suffered against Linense (2- 1) and Talavera (3-2). With Óscar Can, the bleeding was in away games.
