Defeat against England: U17-Nati misses World Cup qualification

Sascha Stauch’s U17 national team (pictured) missed qualifying for the World Cup in November at the European Championships in Hungary.

The Swiss U17 national team lost the match for 5th place at the European Championships in Hungary against England 2:4 (1:1). The team of Sascha Stauch (49) will therefore miss participation in the U17 World Cup 2023 in November.

The game has a playoff character because Switzerland, as one of the two best losers of the quarter-finals, had another chance to qualify as the fifth European team for the World Cup. In last Wednesday’s group game, both teams had split 0-0. This time, Switzerland are on course for victory after Elio Rufener equalized shortly before the break and Basel captain Demir Xhemalija scored the opening goal shortly after the break.
