It’s an afternoon full of emotions. The 1-0 defeat at the end of the season against Servette? Devolves into a side note. Because with Pascal Schürpf, Dejan Sorgic, Lorik Emini and Mohamed Dräger, four crowd favorites no longer have a future at the FCL. And because Ardon Jashari, the captain, the leader, the best player of the season is also about to say goodbye. Thousands chant Jashari’s name after the final whistle. The FCL fans know that their six will be hard to keep.
In addition to FC Porto, Atalanta Bergamo, RB Leipzig and Celtic Glasgow compete for the services of the Swiss international. Jashari himself does not want to draw a final line under his FCL chapter. “At the moment I am blue and white. Now the holidays are coming, then I will go to the European Championship with the U21s. We’ll see what comes next.”
He does not have to change just because he has changed. “The step abroad is not that easy,” says de Zuger, who does not want to commit to a desired destination: “If the project is right, the competition is irrelevant.”
While Jashari’s career is gaining momentum, Pascal Schürpf’s is slowly but surely coming to an end. His contract with the FCL is expiring – and will not be renewed. After six years in which he became the absolute crowd favorite. “In the beginning people thought, what kind of Basler is coming, and now I’m standing here with 199 competitive games. That’s an impressive amount,” says Schürpf.
The striker scored 51 goals for his FCL, in the last game, in the 0-1 defeat against Servette, he lacks centimeters for another sense of achievement. Instead of the net, the header hits the post. Schürpf sees it positively. “It shows that I still have opportunities in the Super League.” He cannot yet say whether he will remain in the competition. “As long as I feel fit, I want to play football. Let’s see where it goes.”
The good thing is that he has a HAVO diploma and can study, according to the attacker, whose contract with the FCL will not be extended. He does not deny rumors that he has an offer from the Lucerne district club SC Obergeissenstein. “You have to look at every offer,” says Schürpf.
Jashari will too. He still has a contract with the FCL until June 2026 and is likely to bring his club millions.
