Was his victory walk too long?: King Wenger at the center of the time scandal

It’s an indictment of the sport of wrestling: this spring, nearly every wreath festival features a blatant misjudgment by the judges!

Two weeks ago, Joel Strebel from Aargau celebrated victory in Basel-Städter, although he did not get hold of his opponent Nick Alpiger’s underpants during the decisive throw. Last weekend at the Emmental, the slow motion clearly showed that Matthias Aeschbacher was not lying on his back at the first meeting with Fabian Staudenmann, contrary to the judgment of the decision makers.

Odermat killed

Seven days later, Basel bidder Adrian Odermatt (22) was clearly cheated by a man during his guest appearance in Oberaargau. How is that possible? The official duration of the fight in the swing-up is six minutes, during which time the third-seeded man of the last Swiss in Pratteln can control King Kilian Wenger (33) without major problems.

But although there had been no interruption in this game until then, the field referee allowed the course to continue after six minutes – until the triumphant of the Federal 2010 Odermatt lay on his back after 7:03 minutes.

At this moment the memories of the last Brünig-Schwinget come to mind. The young star from Bern, Adrian Walther (21), then struggled unsuccessfully for six minutes in third gear against the Lucerne mid-wing Ronny Creator. But also in this case the referee did not control the time and that is why Walther managed to win the walk after about seven minutes and was the winner in the evening.

ESV-TL Stefan Strebel commented on this in clear terms: “There is nothing to hide, this result is based on an obvious misjudgment. At the next meeting in August we should discuss how to prevent this kind of thing in the future.”

After that, Strebel actually did a lot to make his judges better. Last January, the ESV boss organized a training for his people with professional ice hockey referee Daniel Stricker.

However, the most recent wrong decision in Kirchberg clearly shows that the swing judges are still far from the required level. And that leaves the otherwise eloquent Aargau speechless. Strebel: “I have no comment on this case!”
