Winterthur coach Bruno Berner: Despite the defeat against Zurich, the promoted team enters the decisive final round with advantages.

Before the season started, it would have been great news for the club and the fans without any ifs and buts: the blatant outsider Winterthur can still manage to stay in the league on his own in the final round. But after the 0:2 in the penultimate game against FCZ, there are mixed feelings about the Schützenwiese.

Coach Bruno Berner says: “We as FCW are still in control in the 36th round. That is a small encouragement for the players despite the defeat.” But also quite a shame that you have a brutal false start in the home game against Zurich. Because in the Barrage long-distance duel with Sion, even a draw would have been worth gold.

«FCZ taught us a lesson»

Berner: “You don’t start a Super League match like that. Especially not as a team that hasn’t scored many goals this season. The FCZ caught us off guard and gave us a hard lesson. We have to look at it. Maybe there was nervousness, even though We had a good balance between lightness and focus before the game.”

Now comes the great showdown on Whit Monday. Winti at YB, Zion at St. Gallen. “We are going to Bern with confidence, many fans will support us in Wankdorf,” Berner says hopefully. “Lately we score more from home than at home. And we hope for some neighborhood help from St. Gallen.”

The climber dreams of the miracle of Bern. But will the match at YB also be a farewell match for the FCW coach? Blick made his meeting with classification leader Bernt Haas public in early May. Mr. Berner, will Monday be your last game for Winterthur? The Winti coach answers this question remarkably clearly: “I don’t think so – no!”

It cannot be assumed that Berner wants to imply barrage participation with this answer. On the contrary, that the GC issue has been resolved.
