Marco Odermatt (photo) and Co. will compete for points on the Lauberhorn next season.

Traditionally, the alpine ski season starts on the glacier above Sölden. This year, however, the World Cup starts a week later. The women open their season with the giant slalom on October 28, the next day Marco Odermatt tries to win the classic for the third time in a row.

In mid-November and thus two weeks later than last year, the second attempt with the first speed races for men (November 11/12) and women (November 18/19) in Zermatt/Cervinia should succeed.

Combination premiere in Kitzbühel

At the start of the year, the Classic Weeks for men take place with the races in Adelboden (January 6/7), Wengen (January 12-14) and Kitzbühel (January 19-21). The team combination will have a World Cup premiere on Friday at the 84th Hahnenkamm Races. A speed and a slalom driver from the same country compete together for victory.

With Gurgl, a new place on the men’s World Cup calendar has appeared. On November 18, a men’s slalom will be held in the Ötztal. The pole acrobats will certainly get their money’s worth this season. 13 slaloms are planned – as many as once, in the 85/86 season, in the World Cup.

Women in St. Moritz and Crans-Montana

Towards the end of the season, the men’s World Cup entourage will make a second trip abroad. In late February and early March, Palisades Tahoe, California and Aspen, Colorado will only host technical races. Speed races were held at Aspen last year.

The women will make another stopover next winter in St. Moritz (December 8-10) and Crans-Montana (February 16-18).

The upcoming season, which comes without a major event, will conclude with the final in Saalbach. As a novelty, the final decisions will be made over two weekends at the 2025 World Cup venue – first in the technical disciplines and then in the speed disciplines. (SDA)
