Real Madrid took revenge on Rayo Vallecano for their defeat in the first half of the season (2-3) and won 2-1 at home.
The guests almost rewarded themselves for a generally good performance with a points win. But Real were able to react to the equalizer in the 84th minute and still took the three points thanks to a goal from Rodrygo in the 89th minute.
Surrounding the game, there were numerous expressions of solidarity with Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior. While the 22-year-old Brazilian, whose suspension was lifted by the league, sat in the stands with an injury, his teammates left the dressing room, all dressed in the number 20 shirt.
As with the other matches in the Spanish league, the teams together showed a poster calling for football without racism (“Racistas, fuera del Futbol”). There was also a large banner in Real’s fan curve, which read: “We are all Vinicius, enough is enough” (“Vinicius somos todos, basta ya”).
Vinicius was racially insulted several times on Sunday in the away match against Valencia. While the club filed a complaint with Madrid’s prosecutor’s office responsible for hate crimes and discrimination, the attacker took to the league via social media, demanding more action against racism.
