FC Luzern has nine new shareholders. Vice President Josef Bieri has brought well-known personalities from Central Switzerland on board. Blick answers the most pressing questions.
It’s a very positive sign. That nine people with a big wallet are currently committed to the FCL is anything but obvious. Especially now that the club has a structural deficit and it has not been quiet at shareholder level for a long time.
– Hans-Peter Strebel, Chairman of EV Zug
– Thomas Meier, head of the Lehner Shipping and FDP cantonal council
– Robert Casagrande, souvenir dealer from Lucerne
-Patrick von Deschwanden, architect
– Dominik Birrer, partner at accounting firm PwC Luzern
– Michael Wehrle, board member of investment firm Blue Orchard
– Pascal Bieri, co-founder of the startup Planted Foods and son of Josef Bieri
– Samih Sawiris, investor in tourism
– Hans Schmid, contractor Lucerne
Both swing and Bieri. Nevertheless, her return can be described as one of the many moves that the board, together with shareholder Bieri, has put on the chessboard in recent weeks to put extra pressure on Alpstaeg. Finally, any legal action by one of the two may carry more weight if done as a current shareholder rather than as a former shareholder.
The 77-year-old investor welcomes the expansion of the shareholder base. “It’s positive for the FCL. It’s about the club and not about Josef Bieri or Bernhard Alpstaeg,” says spokesman Sacha Wigdorovits. He is pleased that the shareholders are established personalities. Yet he does not think of withdrawing. “Of course not.”
For now it has no effect. Nothing changes in the balance of power. Even if one day Alpstaeg owned only his original 27 percent, he would own the most shares. In addition to Bieri, he now faces nine other shareholders.
Operationally, he is in control. He proved that this week. Just as he recently provided the bank guarantee for the league’s license. Nevertheless, if Alpstaeg wins in court and regains his 25 percent stake, he could still replace the board of directors if he so chooses.
Peace must return for now. Prosecutors are currently hearing the lawsuits filed by both sides. No news is expected in the short term. The Alpstaeg site assumes that it will be autumn before there is any relevant news.
