Yverdon makes the jump to the Super League as a sensational climber. And entails a frenzied fan fight. Because although the landscape at Lake Neuchâtel is usually modest, the fans are not really behind the team.

Yverdon has two separate fan groups that create atmosphere independently of each other. Challenge League broadcaster Blue’s TV picture usually shows the provincial posse well, as the two opposing fan camps are both in the stands opposite and not behind the goal.

Both groups of fans are singing for themselves

On the edge of the right half of the square is the “Section Lac”, created in 2014. These are the boys in the style of the ultras, who burn pyros after the promotion match against Aarau. The «Verts-Play» fan club, which has existed since 1999, is located on the left side of the square. Those are the elders. Both groups of fans sing and drum to themselves.

“We have already tried singing together or alternately, but both didn’t work,” says Séverine Vinet of the Verts-Play in the magazine “Zwölf”.

The young don’t think the old are cool. Older people do not believe that young people insult opponents or the referee. Incompatible positions in the fan philosophy – the Yverdon fans have so little in common that they keep their distance from each other and sing separately even in away games in the guest sectors. “The vocal support leads to a cacophony,” says “Twelve”.

Flags and drums have both sides. But the «Section Lac» burns off pyros or even tries a choreo. With “Verts-Play” there are neither. That’s what kids are for. And at the market in Yverdon, this fan club sells homemade jams and cakes to fund outings.
