FCZ beckons to the best derby week ever

The identification at FCZ is largely determined by the enormous rivalry with fellow townsman GC. The derby is more important than any other game. And there the FCZ is currently experiencing fantastic derby days.

GC and Zurich meet four times in just nine days. Have the three derbies already been played? The FCZ won them all. But first things first. Derby Chapter 1. The traditional Blue Stars Fifa Youth Cup tournament takes place on the ramp in Zurich. FCZ and GC meet in the boys’ semi-finals. The Hoppers lose 0:2, Zurich qualifies for the final and wins the tournament of the Brazilians against the Corinthians.

Derby chapter 2. In the women’s Super League play-offs, the Zurich derby enters the semi-finals. The first leg will take place on the GC campus. Defending champion FCZ beats the rival with 3:2. Seraina Piubel (22), the daughter of former FCZ coach and former GC player Urs Meier, shoots FCZ to victory with a brace.

Derby chapter 3. Kitsch alarm in the Letzigrund. In his last derby before retiring as a player, FCZ legend Blerim Dzemaili (37) scored the decisive goal in the 2-1 win against GC.

Derby chapter 4. The second leg in the women’s semifinals will take place on Whit Saturday (4 p.m.) at the Heerenschürli in Zurich-Schwamendingen, a stone’s throw from the new “Home of FCZ”. In the regular season in March, 1530 spectators came to the derby, which meant a new record for Heerenschürli.

Now the FCZ can look forward to a new fan record on Saturday – and with the women’s final the perfect end to the most beautiful derby week of all time. (md)
