Tennis star Simona Halep feels unfairly treated.

Last October, the International Agency for Integrity in Tennis (ITIA) issued a doping suspension for Simona Halep (31). During a test at the US Open, the Romanian turned out to have the banned drug roxadustat with him. The drug, which is used for kidney problems, among other things, increases the number of red blood cells and leads to a better oxygen supply.

The next hammer followed on Friday for the former world number 1. The ITIA started new proceedings against them. This time, the charges relate to irregularities in her biological sports passport.

protested innocence

She has been experiencing the worst nightmare of her life since October, Halep writes as the first response on Instagram. She complains about the damage to her name and claims that she has never used illegal substances. Instead, she claims to have fallen victim to contamination.

“I feel helpless in the face of such intimidation and the motivation to prove to myself something I never did”Simona Halep, Romanian tennis player

“I feel helpless in the face of such intimidation and the motivation to prove something I never did,” Halep continued. “I have tried twice to be tried by an independent court and the ITIA has always found reasons to postpone the hearing.”

Big misunderstanding

She follows up a few days later. The reason? The hearing in the first trial, scheduled for the end of May, has been postponed again. “Once again I am very shocked and disappointed by the attitude of the ITIA,” she begins her explanation. While she has publicly stated that she remains committed to working with her in a “sensitive, efficient and timely manner”, she has now overtaken the court to “postpone my hearing … for the third time”.

An approach that caused a lot of misunderstanding at Halep. “When will this finally end?” she asks. And emphasizes: “I have the right to a prompt hearing. This practice violates my rights.”

When the hearing will take place is as open as whether Halep will be able to prove her innocence. (bir)
