Put the racing skis in the basement: Marc Digruber.

After 94 World Cup races it’s over. The Austrian slalom specialist Marc Digruber (35) ends his career. “I realized it was time to draw a line,” he says in Ski Austria’s post. “I have devoted my whole life to skiing and I am very happy that I was able to fulfill my childhood dream.”

Digruber made his World Cup debut in 2010. In the Levi (Fi) slalom he was 41st and missed qualifying for the second run. In total he finished in the top 10 six times and did not get a podium finish. He came closest when he finished fourth in Val d’Isère (Fr) in 2016. Digruber was more successful in the European Cup. There he celebrated three victories and was second once.

there are plans for the future

Among other things, he describes the home races in Schladming as “indescribable moments”, where he cornered two of his top 10 placings. He also took part in his last World Cup race on Austrian snow – albeit with moderate success. At the beginning of March he missed qualifying for the 2nd run in Flachau by about two tenths in 34th.

Digruber thus continues a series of Austrian ski retirements. Matthias Mayer (32), Nicole Schmidhofer (34), Max Lahnsteiner (26), Ramona Siebenhofer (31) and Thomas Dorner (24) have already put their skis in the basement for him in recent months.

Digruber already has plans for the future. “I look forward to spending time with my family,” he says. A year ago he became a father for the second time. He will also transfer to the police from September. Just like his colleague: Siebenhofer also starts working as a police officer after her dismissal. (bir)
