Rain, demanding track and 150 warriors on bicycles

Paralympic cycling aces shone at the Spanish championships in Viveiro and Xove

aces of Paralympic cycling shone in Championship of Spain celebrated in Viveiro and Xove. The rain that appeared this Sunday morning during the online races – there was a time trial on Saturday – did not spoil the spectacle offered by about 150 warriors on a “demanding course” with constant steep ascents and descents that, in addition, captivates with its proximity to the coast. The level of the organization, in charge of a Viveiro Cycling Club which offered all competitions in streaming, was also positively evaluated.

On the road, most of the athletes who are achieving countless successes around the world have imposed their own law. Eduardo Santas, who will compete in the World Cup in the United States next week, won the MC3 sprint after also ruling the time. Meanwhile, José Diego Jara did the same in the MC5 class.

Pedro Sánchez-Migallón was the best in C4. Gold in C1 went to Ricardo Teno, while Madrid’s Luis Javier Arcega climbed to the highest podium in C2. In the women’s divisions, Jennifer Feijoo took the win in C2 and Rosa María Sansaloni did the same in C5.

In tricycles, the time trial winners repeated. They were Erika González and Joan Reinoso in T2 and Gonzalo García Abella in T1. And the same thing happened in tandem, Inmaculada Martínez and Melisa Gómez and Joan Sansó and Noel Martín adjusted the jerseys of the Spanish champions.

The most unfavorable weather conditions were for the handbikes that started first. That was no excuse for Luis Miguel García-Marquina to give his best level and prevail in H3, nor for Martín Berchesi in H4. Iván Manoel Montero was the winner in H5, and for the women, Natalia Vitoria won in H2 and Milagros López in H4.

The unsettled weather did not prevent the Spanish Paralympic Cycling Championships from taking place as normal in Viveiro and Xove and even attracted a good number of fans who enjoyed the show.
