After a long wait, the penalty for Juventus Turin is clear: the Italian court has decided that ten points must be deducted from the record champions for accounting fraud. So the Champions League place is probably gone for the old lady!
Originally, the Bianconeri were deducted 15 points by the Italian football field, but Juventus challenged this decision, were right and got their 15 points back. As a result, Turin suddenly found itself back in the running for the Champions League. But the Italian public prosecutor’s office did not accept it and challenged the decision. With a new panel of judges, the Court of Appeal has now agreed with the prosecutors, and Juve had ten of the eleven required points deducted. With the points deduction, Juventus dropped from 2nd to 7th place and could not even play in Europe next season.
Czech football legend Pawel Nedwed has been acquitted along with seven other former officers of charges that the Italian sports court had demanded eight months in prison for them. The former club officials around Andrea Agnelli, Fabio Paratici (CEO of Tottenham), Federico Cherubini (Juventus football director) and Maurizio Arrivabene (ex-Ferrari team boss) remain accused.
