Brooks Koepka leads the compact leading group

class=”sc-29f61514-0 kHgAwW”>

Brooks Koepka is on his way to his fifth major title.

On the third day of the US PGA Championship, the 33-year-old Koepka scored the best result in the field of 76 finalists with 66 strokes (4 under par). He takes seven shots from world number two Scottie Scheffler, who led the second major tournament of the year past the half.

For the last 18 laps, however, the leading group is still quite compact. Scheffler is four strokes behind tied for fifth place, and Northern Ireland superstar Rory McIlroy also has a decent shot behind Scheffler.

Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy are the most successful players in the field after six-time winner Phil Mickelson with their four major titles. Mickelson for his part is still a long way from the final round in Rochester in 67th. (SDA/dti)
