Christian Streich is known for his golden touch when he comes on as a substitute. And he proved that again on Friday in the Bundesliga game. In the 70th minute he put in Nils Petersen and Christian Günter when the score was 0-0, five minutes later it was 2-0 for the Breisgau team – and both substitutes scored.
The story is even better because it is Petersen’s last game at Europa Park. Freiburg’s noble prankster retires at the end of the season. He even managed another brace, but the second goal was taken back after the video referee intervened.
Thanks to the victory, SC Freiburg can still dream of the Champions League and the Breisgau team is catching up with Union Berlin. Urs Fischer’s team has one more game to play and the better goal difference.
