FCB fans will not receive an extra train from SBB on May 25…

When the club plays out, it is clear to many fans that they are traveling to the foreign stadium. The SBB often makes extra fan trains available for this purpose.

But for the match between FC Basel and Servette FC on May 25 in Geneva, such a move will not take place. The reason: the Pentecost weekend and because all Super League matches take place at the same time. Baseljetzt.ch was the first to report.

FC Zurich tried to help

A slap in the face for FCB fans. Not because they now have to travel by regular train. The problem is the return journey. Because after the game there is no train running anymore. So an extra train would have been needed.

FC Zürich wanted to help FC Basel and made the SBB offer to cancel the extra train for the match against FC Winterthur, which also takes place on May 25. After all, with the regular offer, the outward and return journey to Winterthur is no problem.

Extra trains are intended to relieve regular traffic

However, the SBB does not want to interfere in this deal. That’s why the FCB fans have to see with their own eyes how they get home after the game.

Compared to Blick, the SBB says that on May 25, all Super League matches will take place at the same time. “Normally in Super League there are not five games going on at the same time, with all away teams needing one or more fantrains for their fans.”

As a result, the need for fan trolleys is significantly higher. In addition, an increase in travel volume is expected due to the Pentecost weekend. For this reason, SBB cannot provide fan trains for all clubs. Affected fans were informed in good time and asked to provide alternative travel options.

The question remains why FC Zurich’s offer was rejected and why the extra train from Zurich to Winterthur cannot be used for FCB fans. The SBB says that the fan trains are “used on routes with a regular service”. There is a transport obligation. Trains also run between Zurich and Winterthur, but not between Basel and Geneva. Therefore, this route is treated with priority. (jmh)
