Cort Nielsen wins, teammate crashes into supervisor

Alberto Bettiol is beside himself. He’s yelling around, yelling at a strange squad leader. What happened? The Italian crashed hard about 50 kilometers from the finish in Viareggio. Because he bumps into said Australian team supervisor Jayco AlUla.

After 196 kilometers, the Dane triumphed in a sprint against fellow escapees, the Canadian Derek Gee and the Italian Alessandro De Marchi.

“I am incredibly happy,” said Cort Nielsen, who now has stage wins in all three major national tours on the credits, after another rainy and unusually cold stage in northern Italy: “It was such a tough day today. one of the worst stages I’ve experienced on a bike.”
