El Cisne begins to say goodbye to Asoba (29-33)

Javier Márquez’s men were doomed to fall in the final test with Atlético Valladolid

He Swan began to sing his last songs in League Asobal. Any chance of a miracle included defeat this Sunday in Pontevedra Recoletas Atlético Valladolid, but far from being the last team to record another defeat, 29-33. The visitors’ series of 1-8 between the end of the first and the beginning of the second half gave the team from Valladolid a six-goal lead, for the insurmountable home team.

Swan highlighted, especially in the positional attack, the loss of the Portuguese Gabriel Cavalcanti, who was injured again with his team. Despite everything, he entered the duel very tense, aware that his last shot was attached to the fight for salvation. Relying on his work in defense and several saves from Kilian Ramírez, he began to control the score. Valladolid, punished very quickly with two expulsions, was unable to reduce the deficit, and their coach David Pisonero asked for a time-out before Cisne took the lead with three goals (8-5).

The Pucellans, despite the loss of Brazilian Guilherme Toledo due to disqualification, adjusted their defense and this helped goalkeeper César Pérez to start touching balls. At 0-3, they quickly equalized, forcing Javier Márquez to call a timeout. A break that did not reactivate his team, they also failed in attack and were soft in defense. Two consecutive mistakes by the extreme right Carlos Álvarez gave control over the electronics to the Pucelano team, which did not want to lose it again.

At the beginning of the second half, Valladolid led with six goals and seemed to have sealed the game (14-20, 35th minute). El Cisne, with a sharper defense, threatened to react with a 5-2 series, but between César Pérez and the home team’s childish mistakes, Valladolid’s triumph and virtual relegation from Pontevedra were confirmed.

At the end of the clash, the coach of Cisne, Javier Márquez, gave a voice about the state of mind of a team that is known to have already been relegated: “Even though we knew that the situation was difficult, we had the illusion that we would continue to the end with at least some options. We had a lot of hope in this game and we failed to compete. We missed 23 shots on goal […] The people are depressed, devastated. We have to spend our duel and prepare the next matches from tomorrow.
