Finally. Marc Hirschi ended his winless streak after 208 days. The Bernese wins the third stage of the Tour of Hungary from Kaposvar to Pecs over 179.9 kilometers. “A first win of the season is always nice, I am very satisfied. This success means a lot to me,” says Hirschi. He wins the race, which is peppered with a few short climbs, after a solo final climb. He has an 8-second lead on Ben Tulett (Gb) Hirschi also takes over the leader’s jersey.
Hirschi does not care at the moment that the Tour of Hungary is not a stage race in the highest category. Things are improving for him ahead of the summer – he’s eager to shine at the Tour de Suisse and at the World Championships in Scotland. In February, Hirschi broke his forearm in a fall.
Already on Saturday, Hirschi must be on guard to maintain his leading position. A new mountain finish is imminent. “It’s going to be super tough, nothing has been decided for a long time,” he says. The Tour of Hungary ends on Sunday with a flat stage. (MG)
