The national ice hockey team will fly to Riga on Wednesday for the World Cup, which starts on Friday. Defender Roger Karrer and the three strikers Tyler Moy, André Heim and Johnny Kneubühler will not be on board. They didn’t survive the last team dropout.
In Moy’s case, this comes as a surprise as the Rappi striker was the top goalscorer with a Swiss passport for the past National League season. But it was also noticeable that he was less able to present himself and that the opponents were getting stronger in preparation for the World Cup. Servette defender Karrer cannot be there due to an injury. At least Heim can take comfort in the fact that he recently signed an NHL contract with the St. Louis Blues. And a World Cup nomination from Kneubühler was not to be expected.
As communicated last week, Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg) will join the national team from the NHL. Denis Malgin of the Colorado Avalanche has also received the green light to participate in the World Cup. He is also expected on Wednesday. Roman Josi (Nashville) is definitely not available for this World Cup due to health reasons, as he suffers from a concussion.
