An important duel

Río Breogán and Ucam Murcia play following Valencia’s trail to the playoffs

Important game for Río Breogán this afternoon (12:30 p.m., Movistar) in O Paz against Ucam Murcia. The two teams, even in the standings — separated by just one win — are looking to catch up with ValenciaBasket for a chance to qualify to play in the title playoffs.

However, it will not be easy for them to take this additional prize. And that is that both teams, in addition to winning their matches, will also have to wait for a failure from this Valencia Basket, which is in a positive dynamic. The students of Veljko Mrsić welcome this match eager for revenge, especially after the Paprenja team overtook them in the qualification table this week.

Although the dynamics of the two teams are different — Lugo slumping while the Murcians rise — the locals will look to capitalize on the wear and tear that playing in Tenerife in midweek has meant for the visitors, apart from the travel.

But we must not forget that Río Breogán has been punished a lot by the losses he has faced in the matches of the last few days. One piece of information says it all: the people from Lugo have not won since they defeated Real Madrid in O Paz, holding a full recital. And that’s why Mrsić hopes that this Sunday’s meeting will be a turning point and mean a reversal of the situation.

Facing Ucam Murcia, Río Breogán will be without Toni Nakić and Stefan Momirov, two important players in Veljko Mrsić’s schemes. The one who will be in the game is Luković

The team coached by Sito Alonso will come to this game in ninth place with a baggage of 14 wins and 17 losses, while the Breoganists appear in O Paz with a record of 13-17. A win for either of the two competitors this afternoon will have the added value of finishing the event in ninth place, making them a sure ticket to international competition.

As usual in the matches played by Río Breogán in O Paz, a great entry is expected. There is still a hunger for basketball even though the season is over. Breogan fans remain confident that their team can qualify to play in the title play-offs, which would undoubtedly be the finishing touches to a historic campaign.
