Dominique Aegerter (32) finished fifth in the first race of the Superbike World Championship in Montmeló (Barcelona).
Aegerter was only better classified in Assen two weeks ago. On the traditional circuit in the Netherlands he had moved up from 6th place in the first test to 4th place the next day.
The race in Montmeló had to be abandoned after three laps and a crash by Brazilian Eric Granado. Aegerter tackled the remaining 17 loops from 7th position after securing 2nd place before the actual start. In the World Championship standings, the former Moto2 rider has moved up two places to sixth.
Only world champion Alvaro Bautista from Spain was faster in qualifying. The dominator of the scene is also in a class of its own in the race. In the tenth race of the season he drives with a lead of almost nine seconds to his ninth victory. (SDA/nsa)
