Carlos Alcaraz is hard to stop – in Madrid he is still on course for the title.

Sometimes Carlos Alcaraz (20) even surprises himself. When he broke apart Alexander Zverev (26) 6: 1, 6: 2 at the start of the week in Madrid’s final last year, he looked afterwards as if he had lost the protagonist used to be. character in a superhero movie who just first found out she has supernatural powers. Perplexed, he said after his demonstration of power: “The result is not normal for me.” He played “great” and felt great about it.

Nobody knows where the path of the very talented Spaniard will lead. Everything seems possible. “He can win any tournament at the moment. It often seems as if he is playing at a completely different level. Yes, as if he is playing a different sport,” tennis journalist José Morgado recently told Blick.

Even better than Federer and Nadal?

Now former top player Andy Roddick (40) has also given his opinion on Alcaraz, who will turn 20 on Friday and will face Borna Coric (26) (4 p.m.) in the semi-finals of Madrid. The American tells the Tennis Channel: “I’m not one for exaggeration. But I think he’s more complete with male tennis players his age than anyone before him.”

Roddick even draws a comparison with superstars Roger Federer (41) and Rafael Nadal (36): “Roger didn’t win his first major until he was 21, Rafa won when he was 17, but he wasn’t great on all surfaces until he was maybe 20, 21, 22.”

“Incredible to see”

Alcaraz, who became US Open champion last year at age 19 and the youngest world number one in history, already has “really no weaknesses”.

Compared to “us mere mortals”, Alcaraz is able to throw the right punch even in difficult situations and not think about the consequences: “He’s a master at that. It’s incredible to see that,” said Roddick, who won the US Open in 2003, but always failed Federer in his other four Grand Slam finals.

Alcaraz now has the chance to take his fourth title of the year in Madrid, after Buenos Aires, Indian Wells and Barcelona. But first he has to prove his acclaimed skills again in the semi-final against Coric.
