Lucas Wallmark asked to have his contract with the ZSC Lions terminated. He is one of four foreigners to leave the club.

The ZSC Lions provide an update on the selection for the coming season. And this one has it all.

In a press release from Zurich, seven players are said goodbye. Among them big names: with Garrett Roe, Justin Azevedo, Alaxandre Teixier and Lucas Wallmark, four foreign stars are leaving. Also keeper Ludovic Waeber, Dominik Diem and Noah Meier.

Of the foreigners, goalkeeper Simon Hrubec (Czech Republic), defenseman Mikko Lehtonen and striker Juho Lammikko (both Finland) will also play for the Lions next season.

Wallmark asked to terminate the contract

Center Wallmark has requested that his contract, which ran through the 2024/25 season, be terminated. “Lucas contacted us and asked to terminate his contract with the ZSC Lions. He sees his future elsewhere. We have responded to this extraordinary request,” explains sports director Sven Leuenberger in the press release.

Goalkeeper Ludovic Waeber wants to try his luck in North America. He wants to join an NHL organization, which has not yet been named. The 26-year-old goalkeeper still has a valid contract with the ZSC Lions up to and including the 2024/25 season and if he were to return during this period, he would play for the Zurich team again.

Leuenberger: «I speak with mixed feelings about this transfer. On the one hand, Ludo’s departure hurts, because he has impressively shown his qualities as a goalkeeper. On the other hand, I’m happy for him to get this opportunity in the NHL. And for the ZSC Lions, bringing another player to the NHL is a great story. We are now planning with the goalkeeper duo Simon Hrubec and Jeffrey Meier. With Simon we know what he’s capable of and Jeffrey deserves to show what he can do.”

Trust your own growth

One new addition has been confirmed so far: 25-year-old striker Yannick Zehnder comes from EV Zug. The Lions say they want to promote the installation of homegrown Lions talents such as Silvan Landolt, Daniil Ustinkov, Nicolas Baechler, Marlon Graf, Joel Henry and Livio Truog under head coach Marc Crawford.
