The Colombian Fernando Gaviria secures the stage victory in the sprint. The 28-year-old Movistar rider surprises the competition by attacking before the last corner and saving the lead to the finish.
Gino Mäder finished as the best Swiss in 15th place in the overall standings, 2:48 minutes behind. This ranking does not match the expectations of the second of last year. Mäder now has to keep calm regarding the Giro d’Italia and hope things go better next Saturday. The Swiss could occasionally prove his form, but had a weak day in the king stage on Saturday.
Alongside Adam Yates on the podium are American Matteo Jorgenson (19 seconds behind) and Italian Damiano Caruso (27 seconds), Mäder’s teammate at Bahrain Victorious.
30-year-old Adam Yates, not to be confused with his slightly more successful twin brother Simon Yates, winner of the Vuelta 2018, takes the overall victory in his first participation in the Tour de Romandie. Adam Yates has already won several tours, but not at the level of the top 3 events: he won the Tour of Croatia in 2019, the UAE Tour in 2020, the Tour of Catalonia in 2021 and the Tour of Germany in 2022.
