Daniel Winnik has been able to move around in the NHL: 798 regular season games, plus 63 playoff games. During his 11 seasons with Anaheim, Colorado, Arizona and Washington, he made the playoffs eight times. And during that playoff, he experienced a Game 7 four times.

«A game 7? Frankly, it’s hard to describe what it feels like,” he said after the defeat in Biel. “It’s something indescribable. The emotions are special and you have the feeling that something special is always happening. I remember playing four games like that.”

The special thing about it: they were all home games – like Thursday in Geneva. The problem? Winnik, now 38, lost all four crucial games. “But that has never been in a final,” he puts it in perspective. “I always assume that the team that can play for their own fans has an advantage. It is now up to us to take advantage of this.”

And how does Daniel Winnik explain the defeat in Biel? “I don’t think the pressure played a role. We were too undisciplined at times, the penalties took us out of rhythm.” Despite the disappointment about the defeat in the sixth game, Winnik sees the bright spot: “If we had been told at the beginning of the season that we would play game 7 of the final at home, the whole team would have signed.”
