The Swiss Indoors 2023 have their first top stars. Carlos Alcaraz (19) and Holger Runde (19) will thrill the spectators in Basel in the autumn, the tennis tournament announced on Tuesday.
Alcaraz (ATP 2) is currently the benchmark of everything in world tennis. The Spaniard made tennis history as the youngest ever number one in the world and already won the Indian Wells Masters tournament and the Barcelona Open this season. He was a guest in Basel in 2022 and failed in the semifinals against eventual winner Félix Auger-Aliassime.
The then opponent of the Canadian in the final: Holger Rune. The Dane was named “ATP Newcomer of the Year” last year and won the ATP tournament in Munich a few days ago. He is currently seventh in the world rankings.
Alcaraz will play their opening game at the Swiss Indoors on day one, Monday, October 23 (Super Monday). Rune starts the tournament a day later. According to the organizers, the remaining field of participants will be announced in the coming weeks. (byl)
