What do Marco Odermatt (25) and Roger Federer (41) have in common? Both are among the most successful Swiss athletes and are very popular. Now they have something else in common: they are ambassadors for Switzerland Tourism.
Federer has held this position since 2021. To attract tourists to Switzerland, the tennis maestro shot commercials with Hollywood stars Robert de Niro (79) and Anne Hathaway (40) and recently traveled by train with South African comedian Trevor Noah (39) through our country.
Now Odermatt also advertises for Switzerland. And as befits a skier, he does so as a winter ambassador. “It should show young guests from Europe in particular how winter fun works in the snow, on the slopes, in the ski huts, during après-ski”, says André Hefti from Switzerland Tourism to the “Schweizer Illustrierte”.
A few days ago, Odermatt stood in front of the camera in central Switzerland. At the Titlis ski area in Engelberg, he skis down the slopes in the blazing sun, polishes his large crystal ball, which he received for his victory in the overall World Cup, and treats himself to a Schümli Pflümli at the edge of the piste.
The end of the year will show how well the commercial with last season’s ski dominator is received. Because the campaign with Odermatt will only start next winter.
“I am happy to be a winter ambassador for Switzerland Tourism and to show our guests my local mountain and my homeland,” the Nidwalden enthusiast says of the recordings. «Winters in Switzerland gripped me from an early age and forever. I am thrilled that I can now officially share this passion!”
Odermatt has provisionally completed all mandatory dates with the recordings. As he wrote on social media on Sunday, the season is now officially over for him: “Time to take a nap and turn off Instagram.”
And shared in the hashtags that he is now charging his batteries and will be out of touch with his fans for a few weeks. He certainly deserved his vacation. (bir)
