Kitmanager talks about Sion-Star Balotelli

He is a footballer of a special kind – Mario Balotelli (32) polarizes both on and off the pitch. As is known, the Italian now plays in the Super League at FC Sion. But in his most glorious and sportingly successful times, clubs such as Inter, Milan and Manchester City were still his employers.

With the latter club, Balotelli won the English national title in the 2011/12 season. Citizens thus dramatically secured the championship – level on points with city rivals United.

Has the club paid the fines?

In 2013, the striker exchanged Manchester for Milan. And leave the English club with a special kind of souvenir, says former Manchester City kit manager Les Chapman (74) in the podcast ‘Ninety Three Twenty’. “I used to do tours of the training field. And I remember going into the dressing room on the first tour after Mario left,” said Chapman. “And I said to the visitors, ‘This is Mario’s locker’. I opened the door and about 30 tickets fell out! And a pay slip. The club had fined him £100,000 this month.”

At the time, this amount was equivalent to about a week’s wages for Balotelli – which is why he would care so little. Chapman: “His car has been impounded 27 times and he owed Manchester City Council tens of thousands of pounds when he left the club and I think the club paid for it for him.”

Balotelli is currently absent from his current club Sion due to pain in his adductor muscles, but should soon be back on the pitch by the end of the season. (tired)
