It was August 23, 2005. Laracha was full of expectations, as a television star like Luhay Hamid was trying out with his football team, which was then the leader in the Third Division. “Big Brother arrives in Larachés football”, could be read on the cover of the Carballo edition of La Voz de Galicia. In that team led by the legendary ex-deportivo Jose Luis Vara, Alberto Casal (the current goalkeeper coach of Deportivo) was under the sticks, and there were also historical figures from that football such as Javi Villar, Juachi, Míchel, Jesús, Iván Pérez, Javi Angeriz, David Vidal, Dani Xelo (coach of the blue and white Kadets A), Pablo Fernández, Pepe Torrente (former Cope producer and journalist)… “It was a very good experience, really, I did a couple of training sessions with them, and on occasion and outpouring I won’t say who, because he normally speaks on the radio – Hamido jokes today in a statement for La Voz.
Almost 18 years after that experience, Luhay will return to Galicia as president of Ceuta, Deportivo’s next opponent, at the Riazor Stadium (Sunday, 7pm, TVG 2). “Galicians are special people. It is difficult for them to open their heart, but if they do it is for life. They are a little suspicious, but then they give you everything. I have very good memories of my stay. I like how people live there and I love everything about Galicia. I could only do a few trainings, I asked to change my records to study there and they didn’t give me one, so in the end I had to finish my degree in Granada. So yes, I was on my way to sign for Laracha,” he adds.

It is precisely because of this relationship that was forged in his memory that Luhay wishes Deportivo the best. “I hope they will rise, but that the victories will come from Sunday, with all my respect,” he says.
Aída Nízar, Bea Cárdenas, Ainhoa Pareja, Nuria Yáñez (aka Fresita), Nico di Matteo (Italian), David Gallardo, Carla and Denís from Vigo… This is how one of the most memorable lineups in the history of Big Brother was created could start. The connection, the GH5 one, completed by a young footballer from Ceuta named Luhay. He was the last to enter the famous house of Guadalix de la Sierra.
That group of stars, who filled hours and hours of Telecinco’s programming between September 21, 2003 and January 11, 2004, acted in some of the most famous phrases in the history of the legendary program. From the winner, Jagoda, who left that scene behind the door, hiding from the cow, to the last advertisement: “Aida, that scares me.” Jopé, Aida!”, that blonde from Salou shouted desperately. His interlocutor did not last long on the program, but before leaving he also left a loud reflection that sparked conversations: “Oh God, why did you make me so different…”. The first to be kicked out of the program would tour televisions and dishes with her extravagance. Aída was accompanied in the exile by that young man from Ceuta, with an impudent gait, whom he himself was in charge of proclaiming. “So cool, cool, my pirulo,” he blurted out days before the crowd kicked him out with 83 percent of the vote.
Luhay Hamido (Ceuta, 1983) did not last long in Big Brother and soon disappeared from television. But that sight will follow him for the rest of his life. “I turned 20 there, it was a fun experience. It was like going to The Price Is Right. I had a great time in there. Not so much outside. Suddenly everyone knew you and you had to go to a series of contract bowling alleys. It made me anxious. I did what I had to do and when it was all over, I went back to study chemistry and criminology,” he admitted to La Vanguardia.
“Competitor number 12 is from Ceuta. A player for the North African national football team, who also studies chemical sciences. His name is Luhay,” said Mercedes Milá in her introduction. “My dream would be to be an inspector of the science police. Those who know me say that I am an honest, extravagant and somewhat stubborn person,” he added in his promotional video, in which he also detailed that he was a Muslim (his grandfather was an imam in Ceuta mosque). In fact, he entered the house with a compass so that he could pray facing Mecca.
hashish retail
After leaving, he did what was fair to the television producer, he was linked in a romantic relationship with the model and actress Silvia Fominay (ex-wife of former athlete Pedro Riesco and Galician businessman Pablo Alfonso González) and returned to Granada, where he started months before his academic studies preparation at Nasrid University.
In 2010, according to El Mundo, he was arrested by the national police for the alleged crime of retail drug trafficking. In the search of his home, the police found 8,630 euros in cash, 25 acorns of hashish and seven pieces of the same substance, reports ABC.
Return and entry to Ceuta
After finishing his studies, Luhay returned to Ceuta and joined football again. “I have three passions in life: family, friends and Ceuta. It pained me to see how the team worked. I knew the players, they were not satisfied, they were not paid, they even had bad relations with the institutions. Something had to be tried to change before he stays at home and cries,” he explained to El Español, after assuming the presidency in 2016. Nayim, a former Barcelona, Tottenham and Zaragoza footballer, accompanied him on the adventure.
This Sunday, his Ceuta, which he caught well in debt and in the third division, will face Dépora as the most prepared team in the First Federation.
