Tadej Pogacar (24) is again in a class of his own and after almost 254 km from Maastricht to Valkenburg crosses the finish line with 38 seconds ahead of the Irishman Ben Healy (22).
Third is Thomas Pidcock (23) from Great Britain, more than two minutes behind. These two riders could no longer follow the two-time Tour de France winner at 28 km from the finish in Keutenberg.
None of the six Swiss who started had anything to do with the finish at the top. In the end, Marc Hirschi (24) was the best in 36th place. The man from Bern lost with 4:06 minutes to his victorious teammate from the UAE. Mauro Schmid from Zurich was 37th (23rd, 5:02 back). For the Swiss team Tudor there is a sense of achievement thanks to the Dane Alexander Kamp (9th).
After Eddy Merckx (1975), Jan Raas (1979) and Philippe Gilbert (2017), Pogacar is the fourth driver to win the Tour of Flanders and the Gold Race in the same year. But the 24-year-old craves more: Pogacar is looking to complete the Ardennes triple at Walloon Arrow (Wednesday) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège (Sunday) next week. (SDA)
