Hard times for Christophe Galtier (46). As if he wasn’t under enough pressure after leaving the Champions League and dropping out of the Cup competition, he is currently facing serious accusations of racism.
Will statements by the PSG coach in August 2021 prove fatal? As coach of Nice, the current FCB opponent in the Conference League, he would have spoken racist about his team. One of the problematic sentences: “We can’t have so many blacks and Muslims on the team.”
The trigger was an email from Julien Fournier (48), sporting director at OGC Nice from 2019 to 2022, sent by journalist Romain Molina and RMC Sport to INEOS director and Nice official Dave Brailsford. Fournier lists racist statements and actions by the coach, who left Nice in the summer of 2022 in a dispute.
Galtier was annoyed that the team represented neither himself nor the city of Nice. “It’s only black people. Half the team will be at the mosque on Friday.” Fournier said Galtier was not referring to sporting arguments, but “only to religious and skin color arguments.” He also discouraged his Muslim players from fasting during Ramadan.
Fournier already hinted at serious problems with Galtier on the show “After Foot” in the fall: “If I revealed the real reasons for the feud with Galtier, he would no longer be in a football wardrobe in Europe.”
The PSG coach is in the pillory and is now under police protection. “Le Parisien” reports that Galtier’s phone number has been shared on social media. The 46-year-old Frenchman is said to have received more than 5,000 messages and phone calls, including death threats. Galtier vehemently denies the allegations about his lawyer. Speaking to AFP, he says his client was “baffled by the abusive and defamatory” report. You are now going to take legal action yourself.
