The decision of the association has been made final: rider Paul Estermann (59) is out of circulation for seven years. The Swiss Equestrian Federation blocks the rider from Lucerne after he is convicted of multiple animal cruelty charges.

The SVPS announced this on Thursday. After the conviction was final, an investigation was launched.

“As part of the association’s legal investigation, Paul Estermann was invited to a voluntary survey, which the rider declined,” said a statement from the association. For the Sanctions Committee (Sako), “this underlies the behavior of the rider, who has shown no insight and no remorse for his actions during the criminal process”.

The association’s verdict is harsh: “After studying the files of the criminal trial, Sako classifies the rider’s behavior as absolutely unacceptable. He intentionally injured a horse moderately and caused him severe pain. Sentenced since December

Commission chairman Thomas Räber: “De Sako considers the wayward, selfish and aggressive behavior of the rider as a blatant disregard for the welfare of the horse.”

The Estermann case had dragged on for six years now. At that point, Blick had made the allegations against the Lucerne public. Since December, the former Olympic rider has been convicted of multiple violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
