The 120-time international won three bronze medals at the World Cup with the Swiss national team. At the World Championships in Prague five years ago, he wrote floorball history: he was the first Swiss ever, the first goalkeeper and the first player not to reach the final and to be voted Most Valuable Player (MVP). He was also part of the World Cup All-Star Team twice.

But the dream of the world title was denied to him. It also did not work at the 2022 World Cup at home. “I’ve focused my whole life on the World Cup.” In the semi-finals of the World Cup, he had to be substituted due to a gastrointestinal virus, and Switzerland missed out on medals with a fourth-place finish. The last World Cup at home in particular will be remembered: “When we marched in there in front of the Swiss fans and in front of the sea of ​​red flags… I always had this image in my head when I had to do without anything or extra training. To experience this is indescribable.”

Most recently, Meier was under contract with Rychenberg Winterthur, but had to end the season early due to a torn meniscus. “I would rather have made the decision to leave on the field. Accepting that things are the way they are has not always been easy.”
