Joaquin Ardaiz (24) has a bird! In the middle of the neck. It’s the craziest tattoo in Super League. Why on earth did he do that? “In my homeland my name is Pajaro, which means bird,” says the Winti striker. His former fitness trainer gave him this nickname. “Because at the time I had a haircut that reminded him of a bird.”
When asked if his mother was not shocked by the bird, Ardaiz laughed. She herself has many tattoos. And she is proud of her son. He has his parents’ names written on his arms. Because family is the most important thing. “I wouldn’t be here without her. My parents and my grandparents worked hard all day to buy me football boots.”
Ardaiz grew up in a small village near Salto, Uruguay’s third largest city. The striker was discovered at the age of twelve, moved to the capital on his own and the Danubio Fútbol Club from Montevideo signed little Joaquin.
