“Perpetrators must bear the costs”

Remnants of the riots after the cup match between Basel and YB.

There are terrible videos and information that have been leaking since last Tuesday’s cup match.

After the cup defeat against YB, FCB hooded chaos attacked their own safety “Protectas” in the Joggeli. Earlier, security company officials arrested a person in the family sector who held up a torch during the fan choreo. Pepper spray was also used in the action. After the game, the situation in front of the stadium escalated. The sad result: three security guards had to be taken to hospital with serious injuries.

‘Now we have to act hard’

The articles about the incident are by far the most commented stories on Blick.ch. Blick readers consistently criticize the actions of the FCB chaos and propose solutions, some of which are radical. This also applies to Jürg Friedrich. He writes: «If it is legally enforceable: identify the chaotic people, then it must work with the current technical possibilities, if necessary with the publication of the images without pixelation. And then bill those people for the full cost. No ifs and buts. This should have a preventative effect on future stories like this. Of course I also include the hospital costs and doctor’s costs for the security guards.”

For Yves Grüebler, the problem is one level lower: “The true origins lie in the decades -Politics and the far too lenient and often only suspended sentences. What does a torch do in the family sector and why do people resist control? Or does everyone think that laws only apply to others? Whether it’s May 1, a football match or demonstrations, it must finally be tackled hard.”

Reader Rüdiger is one of the few who sees the situation slightly differently: “The security guards have crossed a line and have not acted properly themselves. It all failed when the fans fought back, albeit with excessive means.”

Mischa Ammann closes with a wish: “If these people would put that enormous energy into something useful, our world would be a better place! Sorry.” (red)
