The Seeländer rush from victory to victory, one last step is missing to make club history and get to a playoff final for the first time. Another win against the ZSC Lions and the success story reaches a new high.

It’s the story of a team that seems unwavering. In qualifying this season, the residents of Biel managed to avoid their traditional bear market, came through and took second place. It was also an advantage that coach Antti Törmänen quickly found the basic consistency of his four blocks and only shook it a little.

“Never experienced a week like this”

This self-image also helped in the quarter-final against Bern, when the Mutzen were able to make up for a 0:2 deficit in the series and the weather turned changeable. “Even if not everyone admits that, we were under pressure against SCB,” says striker Etienne Froidevaux afterwards. The 4:2 finally reached had a correspondingly liberating effect.

But two days later, the shock came when coach Törmänen told the team before the semi-final against the ZSC Lions that he had cancer again. “I have never experienced a week like the previous one,” says 40-year-old defender Beat Forster, who has basically experienced everything in his career.

Also fourth line spells

But the team did not get lost in this drama, but became even closer together. Game 1 after the shock? With discipline and patience won 1-0. Game 2 without goalkeeper who had to pass after surgery? The ZSC is exceeded 4:0. And with the 5:3 in Game 3, the fourth line also starts to do magic with two goals (Froidevaux and Tanner). It seems like Biel has a mission and is unstoppable.

Forster says, “A mission was never a problem for us. But from the start of the season, the goal was to be able to show the best hockey when it really matters.” Froidevaux adds: “We have learned from the mistakes of the past.”
