“I would never cheat. I am a retired boxer and now I have a two year ban which is very strange. I have no comeback plans at all.”
That is what Amir Khan (36), former WBA super champion and IBF world light welterweight champion (60,001 – 63.5 kg), says to Sky News after it became known that the British anti-doping authority had imposed a suspension on him.
Khan, who won Olympic silver in Athens in 2004, fought Kell Brook in February 2022 in Manchester in what turned out to be his last boxing match of his career before retiring in May. Khan lost the fight. He then had to go to doping control and the researchers found the banned anabolic steroid ostarine in his sample.
It was then temporarily withdrawn from circulation on April 6, 2022. The two-year suspension now imposed on the 36-year-old Briton will run until April 5, 2024. (yap)
