The jubilation of the Swiss delegation in Lisbon is great when UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin announces the Swiss candidacy as the winner. “This is a historic day for Switzerland, the SFV and women’s football,” said SFV president Dominique Blanc after the vote.

Blanc is enthusiastic: “I would like to thank everyone involved who made this project possible, especially those responsible at the federal level, the cantons and the host cities, who have supported us from the start. This big step will shape the development of women’s football at all levels.”

In Portugal, of course, people toast with champagne to the historic success. The victory celebration should not last too long. Because the lead time is short. Our European Women’s Championship will already start in the summer of 2025. In comparison, the Men’s World Cup in Qatar was awarded 12 years before the tournament.

Daube: «We will convince our guests with the best quality»

The match will be played over four weeks in June and July 2025 in Basel, Zurich, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Bern, Thun, Sion and Geneva. Daube hopes for a big football festival across the country. “We want to have every stadium full for every game,” she said in Sunday’s vision.

Together, the stadiums have a capacity of more than 750,000 spectators for all matches in the tournament. According to the current state of knowledge, no new stadiums, hotels or training grounds need to be built. Daube: «We want to make sure that the environment is protected and that we run all aspects of the tournament as sustainably as possible. This is one of the reasons why we rely entirely on our existing infrastructure. We will convince our guests with the best quality in all respects.”

Crnoorgević: “I wouldn’t have even dared to dream that…”

She herself is now giving up the position of OC boss. This is a full-time job that cannot be done next to the SFV management. The first step is the formation of an association that will be responsible for the organization.

The European Championship 2025 should be a big boost for women’s football in our country. Nati star Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic: “When I started in the national team in 2009, I never dreamed of ever being part of an EM.” Now she is experiencing another in her own country. “It’s just incredible.” Nati trainer Inka Grings says, “We are all super happy and are all very happy!” She has so far had two exhibition games at stake, but may play at the next World Cup and European Championship.
