Aston Martin dismantled Alfa-Sauber 65:6!

class=”sc-3778e872-0 cKDKQr”>

1/8
After three races, Aston Martin (here Alonso in front) has already left Alfa-Sauber (Bottas, behind) behind.

What must have really scared the folks from Hinwil was Alex Albon’s 8th starting position in the Williams-Mercedes. That the Thai then disposed of the car in 6th place without needing it was an advantage for the Swiss team, who had to start from behind.

Everything went well for Alfa-Sauber

Like Leclerc’s early retirement in the Ferrari, the fire in the rear of Russell’s Mercedes, the Alpine double Gasly/Ocon crash on the penultimate lap – and the controversial five-second penalty for Sainz, who crossed the finish line in fourth place. Ferrari. but finished 12th and last. Even “accident victims” Alonso defended his compatriot: “This punishment for Carlos is too severe!”

The slowest race laps

Well, the Alfa-Sauber duo Zhou and Bottas, who by the way drove the two slowest laps in the third World Cup round (!), certainly don’t have a very competitive car with the C43.

Why? A four-month retrospective is sufficient. With luck and 55:55 points against Aston Martin-Mercedes, the Zürich Oberlanders achieved a nice 6th place in the World Cup at the World Cup final in Abu Dhabi. Because Bottas once finished fifth in Imola. This one decided in a tie.

Aston Martin poached for rivals

And now, after only three races, the “Greens” are already in second place with 65 points, while the Hinwilers have only 6 points!

So what happened? Well, billionaire Lawrence Stroll’s team has poached the best technicians and engineers from Mercedes and Red Bull in the open transfer market. The result is now a shock to everyone! And show where success comes from.

Only win with BMW

Andreas Seidl (47), the new CEO at Sauber, knows what needs to be done regarding the cooperation with Audi from 2026. The currently second smallest team in the GP circus (approx. 530 employees) is clearly on internal reinforcement. And the Germans are certainly putting pressure behind the scenes.

The collaboration with BMW (2006 to 2009) already proved that Sauber can build a good car even on the lonely Formula 1 island. Double victory in Canada in 2008: Kubica ahead of Heidfeld.

66 races to go until Audi…

One thing is already clear some 66 races before the next big GP adventure for the Swiss: the constant ups and downs are certainly not due to the diligent mechanics. The two drivers are solid, but certainly not crackers. And Sauber partner Audi certainly already has its own ideas in Ingolstadt for future driver selection.

Car rolled over Zehnder’s foot

Fortunately, Sauber sporting director Beat Zehnder (57) has kept the team together for 550 races. His anniversary in Australia was apparently marred by a minor pit lane accident. His own car overturned as he was pushed back from Zurich. Zehnder downplayed the incident – or an Indian knows no pain!
