Traveling on public transport without a ticket – that’s exactly what happened to comedian Trevor Noah and tennis legend Roger Federer in Switzerland Tourism’s new commercial. What goes well in the film – a woman helps the two celebrities out of trouble and pays for their trip – apparently happened to Federer before.

In an informal conversation, he wants to know from Noah if he has ever committed fraud. After a moment’s thought, the South African says no. The quick-witted entertainer replies, “How about you, Roger?”

Captured! Because Federer was actually already on public transport without a ticket. “But it wasn’t on the train, it was on a tram or bus,” he admits. What happened? “I just took the wrong tram or the wrong bus.” It is not known whether he was caught doing so.

Federer: ‘I don’t have to be a good actor’

It’s been a long time since Federer teamed up with Noah in his latest and third clip. In 2020, they hit the court for charity alongside Microsoft founder Bill Gates and tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, and last year Federer was a guest on Noah’s “Daily Show.”

Topics at the time: How Federer was denied access to the Wimbledon grounds as a visitor without a membership card. And of course there was already a crash course in Swiss German for Noah. In a conversation with the Swiss tennis king, he can actually remember what the complicated, long word with “Ch…” is. At least almost. Noah: “Cake…, Chucki…” – “Chuchichäschtli”, Federer helps. And then, in the humorous conversation, he is given a task that is almost impossible for Swiss tongues to repeat the expression for “somewhat cloudy” in Xhosa, one of the South African languages. Even the Swiss national hero is a little embarrassed.

Furthermore, the appearance is classic Federer: stylish and confident. Like his first two commercials for Switzerland Tourism, in which he starred alongside Hollywood greats Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway.

“These spots got on my nerves,” said Federer, who isn’t as talented as an actor as he is as a tennis player. “But I don’t have to be a good actor either. I could be a disaster and I’d be fine,” Federer said on Noah’s show last December.

Just a month after Federer’s visit to Noah’s TV show, the two shot their own commercial in Zurich HB. The result can be seen on the YouTube channel MySwitzerland since Thursday.
