Union will keep abreast of the top duo

Union Berlin gets the three against Stuttgart.

Things are getting tight in the Bundesliga table basement. Four teams are classified within two points.

VfB Stuttgart will get most of this quartet on Saturday afternoon. The third-placed Union Berlin must come in the rear. And shows an appealing first half. Stuttgart can even celebrate the opening goal. Only: this one doesn’t count. After goalkeeper Grill’s attempt to clear, Perea puts the ball in his hands before throwing it into the net. What the referee does not see on the field does not remain hidden from the VAR. He reports and the goal is disallowed.

After the game change, Urs Fischer’s Union played straightforwardly and was rewarded with the 1-0. Stuttgart has no answer for that. It gets even thicker. First the Swabians conceded the 0-2, then it was Haraguchi who finally put the lid on it with an own goal. He only moved from Berlin to Stuttgart in January and will officially say goodbye before the game. Now he meets in a failed attempt to bring clarity to his ex-club. Stuttgart therefore starts the journey home empty-handed.

And Union Berlin doesn’t just stay with the top duo Dortmund and Bayern. The Champions League is also getting closer. Due to Leipzig’s surprising dive at home against Mainz (0:3), they are now six points ahead of 5th place.

No win for the basement kids

The Keller colleagues can only benefit to a limited extent from Stuttgart’s defeat. Schalke does show a self-sacrificing performance against Leverkusen, but has no chance. 0:3 means ultimately from the Royal Blue’s point of view.

Hertha Berlin thus wins a point. The capitals are now one point ahead of Schalke and two points ahead of Stuttgart. And are level with Hoffenheim. TSG have a chance to put three points between them and the finish line against Bremen on Sunday night (5.30pm).
