Closing time: “Sporthilfe was an important pillar”

It’s been four years. In April 2018, Denise Feierabend ended her skiing career at the age of 28. Now she appears on a public stage again for the first time: the Engelberger is laudator at the presentation of the Young Talent Prize of the Swiss Sports Aid in Horgen ZH. “A great honor, but also a challenge that I like to take on.”

Feierabend once benefited from the support of Sporthilfe. In 2009 she was even voted Young Athlete of the Year at Lenzburg Castle, later taking part in the famous Super10 fight (“That was a lot of fun”).

“Flower of Fate in My Family”

The foundation’s support was essential for Feierabend, who won Olympic team gold in Pyeongchang in her youth in 2018. “After the blow of fate in my family, it was not only a moral, but also a financially important support,” she says.

What closing time means: Her father Emil died at the age of 10 in a tragic paragliding accident in Valais. “Thanks to the protection of Sporthilfe, I was able to devote my thoughts fully to the sport in the years that followed.” Feierabend is still convinced today: “Today it is not possible for many families to practice top sport in their youth without financial support.”

Feierabend is not only a primary school teacher, but has also been a mother for six months now. “Lina is my everything,” she says. But the 156-time World Cup skier has not forgotten her roots. That’s exactly why she supports Sporthilfe – just as she was once supported herself.
