English legend raves about BVB Bellingham

The rise of BVB player Jude Bellingham reads like a fairy tale. At the age of 16, he moved from Birmingham to Germany to join Borussia Dortmund as a promising talent from his native England. Three years later, the midfielder is already vice-captain of the Bundesliga leader and also indispensable in the English national team. At the World Cup in Qatar, he showed everyone his class.

The midfielder showed more examples of his skills in the current European Championship qualifying campaign. In the games against Italy (2-1) and Ukraine (2-0), he is one of the most striking Englishmen on the field. He can do everything: score goals, put them down, clear the back, be the leader – all at 19 years old.

Steven Gerrard excited

Steven Gerrard is also very impressed with his performance against Ukraine. The England legend (114 games) remains enthusiastic after Sunday’s international match on Channel 4: “The game is only his. He is much better than me at his age. He is safer on the ball, he is calmer. His body is more developed. You feel like there’s a veteran on the pitch and he’s only 19.”

Bellingham responded to the huge praise with gratitude and sheepishness. He still has a lot to learn and can do much better. There is no doubt that Bellingham – assuming all goes according to plan – will shape the future of English football.

Will he ever follow in the footsteps of Gerrard (England captain 2012-2014)? “To be captain of the England national team one day would be the greatest honor and dream of my career,” said the Dortmunder, who is contracted to BVB until 2025 and regarded as Gerrard’s former club Liverpool’s favorite player.
